563,895. Vaporizers. WESLAKE, H. March 2, 1943, No. 3413. [Class 7 (iii)] Liquid particles in the mixture stream are deposited over one or more holes 19 in a recessed portion 18 of the induction passage 10 and arranged out of the path of the gases and communicating with a vaporizing chamber formed between the wall of the recess and a brass or other heat-conducting plate 22 on the exhaust manifold, the plate being heat-insulated from the induction manifold to restrict the heating to the apertured recess and so avoid impairing the volumetric efficiency of the engine.. The exhaust gases may be deflected on to the plate 22 by a protuberance 25 opposite the plate. In a modification, the recess itself is formed of heat insulating material. A baffle 26 opposite the connection to the carburetter, guides the main stream of mixture and prevents surges in the induction passages. When associated with a down-draught carburetter, the vaporizing chamber is arranged opposite the opening from the carburetter. |
