Sintered dolomite is produced by forming dolomite feed pellets containing calcium stearate, and then firing the dolomite feed pellets in a rotary kiln at a temperature of at least 1900°C, e.g.at greater than 2000°C for at least five hours. Petroleum coke may be used during firing of the feed pellets. The pellets may have a bulk density of 3.2g/cm3 after firing. Also disclosed is a dolomite feed pellet having an external configuration in plan view of first and second parallel sides extending between first and second semicircular ends, wherein the pellet defines a first longitudinal axis extending parallel to the sides, and the pellet defines a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, and having a rounded rectangular cross section in the direction of the second axis, the pellet further defining a third axis perpendicular to the first axis, and having a cross section in the direction of said third axis having first and second curved sides extending between first and second parallel ends.
|
