A pressure impulse mitigating barrier comprises a cross-linked gel comprising water and gelatine. The gel has been crosslinked using: (I) a functional silane compound comprising an electrophilic group (which is not a silane) and a group of formula (A) -SiR'n(OR)3-n (A) where R is H, a C1-10 alkyl group, C6-10 aryl group, or C7-12 arylalkyl group; R' is C1-10 alkyl group or C6-10 aryl group, or C7-12 arylalkyl group; n is 0-2, with the proviso that at least one R is not H; said functional silane having an Mw of 800 g/mol or less; (II) a transition metal, lanthanide or Al compound; or (III) an enzyme such as transglutaminase. |
