<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat belt retractor adapted to achieve more reliable operation of a locking mechanism by preventing mesh dislocation in the locking mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The seat belt retractor is equipped with a housing; a winding drum for winding webbing rotatably stored in the housing; a rachet gear that rotates integrally with the winding drum; an inertial sensing means for sensing sudden braking of a vehicle and a sudden drawing of the webbing; and a pawl that, upon sensing in the inertial sensing means, meshes with the rachet gear to prevent the rotation of the winding drum in the drawing-out direction of the webbing. The pawl is provided with an engaging part, of which one end meshes with the rachet gear and the other end is turnably supported on a sidewall part of the housing. The sidewall part of the housing, the pawl, and the rachet gear or the winding drum are sandwichedly arranged in this order in the axial direction of the winding drum. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
