PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide capable being easily manufactured including an area having a step in which the thickness of the waveguide core changes while ensuring low optical loss and low polarization dependability, and to provide a spot size converter and an optical device.SOLUTION: The optical waveguide has: a waveguide core 1 which includes a first area 1A; a second area 1B which has a step in which the thickness of the optical waveguide changes; and a third area 1C in which the thickness is smaller than that in the first area. The second area includes: a thick film area 1Y which extends continuously to the first area positioned at both sides in a width direction, in which the width gradually gets smaller from the first area side toward the third area side with the same thickness as that in the first area; and a thin film area 1Z which has the same thickness as that in the third area extending continuously to the third area being enclosed by the thick film area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
