Disclosed is a complex of a protein and metal nanoparticles wherein a particular distance between metal nanoparticles is maintained. In the complex, which is of a plurality of metal nanoparticles and an apoprotein derived from a heme protein dimer, the plurality of aforementioned metal nanoparticles are bonded to the aforementioned protein by means the aforementioned metal nanoparticles being modified in at least one locus by a group represented by formula I and/or formula II, and heme contained in the groups represented by formula I and/or formula II that modify the aforementioned metal nanoparticles being bonded to the aforementioned apoprotein derived from the heme protein dimer from which heme has been eliminated.
