PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical member that is made of a liquid crystal material having a cholesteric structure, has a dot pattern that exhibits retroreflectivity even when viewed from an oblique angle, and reflects high-intensity light, and to provide an image display device that allows data to be entered and exhibits good data entry sensitivity.SOLUTION: An optical member is disclosed, comprising a substrate and dots in contact with a surface of the substrate, where the dots are made of a liquid crystal material having a cholesteric structure. A group of four or more dots constitutes a valid recognition area, and any one of the dots in the valid recognition area is spaced apart from at least two other dots in the valid recognition area by 10 μm or less in terms of a distance between closest ends.
