A method of controlling a linear compressor (100) of a cooling system (20), the linear compressor (100) comprising a piston (1) driven by a linear motor (10), the piston (1) having a controlled voltage (VM), the controlled voltage (VM) having a voltage frequency (fVM) applied to the linear motor (10) and adjusted by a processing unit (22), the controlled voltage (VM) generating a feed current (iA) that circulates in the linear motor (10), wherein the method comprises the steps of: measuring a feed phase (φC) of the feed current (iA) and a dynamic phase (φP) of the piston (1) of the linear compressor (100),measuring a difference between the feed phase (φC) and the dynamic phase (φP) and establishing a measured phase (φPC),dynamically adjusting a range of displacement of said piston as a function of a variation in demand of the linear compressor (100) of the cooling system, so that the linear compressor will be kept in resonance throughout the variation in demand so that a value of the measured phase (φPC) will be null, wherein said variation in demand is derived from changes in said measured phase (φPC) without reference to an external variable.
