A continuous circulation reactor for fabricating ZnO, comprising: a dissolution zone, for dissolving a ZnO nutrient into an aqueous solution composition when the aqueous solution composition includes one or more sources of complexing ligands; a deposition zone, for depositing ZnO from the aqueous solution composition onto a substrate; and one or more physical connections between the dissolution zone and the deposition zone, capable of allowing movement of the aqueous solution composition from the dissolution zone to the deposition zone and/or from the deposition zone to the dissolution zone and wherein the complexing ligands have a greater impact on ZnO solubility in the dissolution zone than in the deposition zone.
