Apparatus and method for controlling operation of mobile terminal

A method of controlling the operation of a mobile terminal is provided. By dynamically selecting or setting a specific function of a mobile terminal according to a change in pressure or contact areas sensed by a plurality of touch sensors which cover the mobile terminal, a user can easily select or set a specific function of the mobile terminal according to his or her intention, and easily recognize information displayed on a screen of the mobile terminal.

1. An apparatus for controlling an operation of a mobile terminal, comprising:
a plurality of touch sensors, disposed on the mobile terminal, representing one or more separate portions of the mobile terminal wherein each of one or more select touch sensors of the plurality of touch sensors is configured to determine respective magnitudes of applied pressure represented as one of a plurality of detectable applied pressure magnitude levels; a recognition unit recognizing a function, from a plurality of different functions to be implemented by the mobile terminal, corresponding to an identified pattern of determined respective magnitudes of applied pressure collectively applied to respective areas of the one or more select touch sensors, when the areas of the one or more select touch sensors have been sensed as being selected by a user's touching of the mobile terminal; and a control unit controlling an operation corresponding to the recognized function.
