PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a simple configuration to prevent an illegal passage of a non-authenticated person, maintaining availability of walk-through face authentication.SOLUTION: A face authentication system performing face authentication of a person passing an authentication area and determining whether to permit the person to pass or not comprises: image acquisition means that captures an image of the authentication area and sequentially acquires an input image; storage means that stores a registered face image of a preliminarily registered user; face collation means that collates a face image of a person extracted from the input image with the registered face image, and authenticates that the person is the user; and permission means that, when a size of an area indicative of an authenticated person in the input image is more than a predetermined size, permits passage of the person. Even if authenticated by the face authentication as a legal user, when an authenticated person is present at a position away from a camera, the passage is not permitted, and at a point of time when it is detected that the authenticated person gets close to a camera side, the passage is permitted. |
