PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide which makes it possible to obtain a positive electrode active material superior in the reactivity with a lithium compound, and the thermal stability and battery characteristics.SOLUTION: A nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide serves as a precursor of a positive electrode active material of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide is expressed by the following general formula: NiCoMnM(OH)(where 0<x≤1/3; 0<y≤1/3; 0≤z≤0.1; M represents at least one element selected from Mg, Al, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo and W). In the nickel cobalt manganese composite hydroxide, the specific surface area measured by BET method based on nitrogen adsorption is 3.0-11.0 m/g, and the average valence of Co and Mn determined by the oxidation-reduction titration is 2.4 or more. |
