PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feed apparatus capable of effectively determining multi feeding of sheets even when feeding special paper sheets such as envelops.SOLUTION: A paper feed apparatus can convey paper P containing a portion formed of one sheet and a portion formed of two or more sheets superposed one on another, specifically envelopes. The paper feed apparatus comprises: a paper conveyance part 250 for conveying an envelope along the conveyance path; a multi-feeding-of-sheets detection sensor 55 for outputting detection signals due to the number of sheets in a thickness direction of the paper detected in an envelope being conveyed along the conveyance path; a storage unit for storing a profile of detection signals throughout the paper from its tip to its rear end, as a reference profile; and a control unit 50 for determining multi feeding of envelops on the basis of a real progress of detection signals output from the multi-feeding-of-sheets detection sensor 55 during the conveyance of the envelopes by the paper conveyance part 250. |
