PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify an actual size and position of an object, such as a sign or a guideboard, with improved accuracy.SOLUTION: A video camera mounted on a moving vehicle images an object, such as a sign. In each of frames of a video image captured, size of the object in the frame is specified by pattern matching. Actual size of the object is assumed, and a distance between a shooting position and the object is calculated on the basis of the object size and an angle of view at the time of imaging. A plurality of distances obtained based on a plurality of frames are compared, to determine the actual size of the object so as to minimize dispersion thereof. The actual size of the object is determined, to determine a value corresponding to the distance to the object, as well. A plurality of frames are used, to specify the actual size and position of the object with improved accuracy. |
