The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus and method. The image processing method according to the present invention comprises the steps of dividing a received image into upper and lower portions with respect to both ends of an object within the image, dividing the upper and lower portions of the image into a plurality of slices; extracting a contour line of the object from each of the slices, and combining the slices from which the contour line has been extracted. According to the present invention, the contour of the object within the received image can be more accurately extracted.
