A sealing ring for sealing a machine part, e.g. a shaft, comprises a housing 1, 1a which is attached to a sealing element 7, 7a which has a fastening portion 8, 8a and a sealing portion 9, 9a which is provided with a sealing edge 10, 10a. The sealing element 7, 7a is designed to be substantially rotationally symmetrical. The sealing edge 10, 10a has an undulating profile and lies over a portion of its periphery, viewed in a projection onto an axial plane of the sealing ring, at an angle deviating from 90° to the seal axis. The sealing edge 10, 10a is provided on the inside 16, 16a of a supporting part 14, 14a, the supporting part 14 may be either integral with the sealing element 7, or separate but attached to the sealing element 7a. At at least one point on the periphery, the sealing edge 10, 10a is designed such that a projecting tongue 11, 11a is formed. |
