Embodiments of the present invention provide a data transmission method and a gateway. The method comprises: receiving an activation request, the activation request at least comprising a user identifier and an access point name (APN), and the user identifier being used for identifying an identity of a user equipment; and obtaining a gateway address of a gateway at a home location subscribed by a user, so that data is transmitted between the user equipment and the home location subscribed by the user. In this manner, it can be achieved that there is only one APN for each type of public services, the number of the APNs can be reduced, and management of the APNs can be simplified; a network structure does not need to be modified, a universal APN needing to go back to a subscribed home location can be flexibly configured, only the parsing of the home location is required for the APN, and accordingly, the signaling process can be simplified, and requirements on processing capabilities of a gateway device can be reduced. |
