In producing light-proof coloured glazes from artificial resins such as urea-formaldehyde condensation products upon cement and like slabs and tiles, resins and pigments are used which are free from halogen, and from phenols or condensation products thereof. The artificial resin used may be a condensation product of urea-thiourea-formaldehyde to which ammonium nitrate has been added as a hardening agent, a glaze so produced being stated to be exceptionally waterproof.
