<p>The machine tool 1, and a method of measuring a distance to an object on a machine tool, is provided with a measuring device 5 having an optical displacement meter 6 to allow an accurate in-machine measurement without being affected by temperature drift and the measurement environment. A measurement control unit 7 causes the machine tool and the laser displacement meter 6 to execute a measurement operation. The control unit 7 includes a calibration section 20 and a measurement execution section 30. The calibration section has a calibration operation execution section 23, a calibration data calculation section 24 calculating data for calibration, and a calibration data storage section 25 storing the data for calibration. After actuating the laser displacement meter, the measurement control unit executes calibration by the calibration section at least once before execution of the actual measurement, and then executes actual measurement by the measurement execution section.</p> |
