Disclosed are a method for notifying information of a PE device and a relevant apparatus applied to a BGP-based MVPN. The method comprises: a PE device in the MVPN determining a role of the PE device in the MVPN and a working state corresponding to the role, where the role is a root node and/or a leaf node, and the working state is active or standby; the PE device generating a BGP update message, where the BGP update message carries an IP address of the PE device, an identifier of the MVPN, the role of the first PE device, and the working state; and the PE device sending the BGP update message to a BGP neighbor of the PE device in the MVPN. The technical solutions provided in the embodiments of the present invention can solve problems of a large amount of configuration work and easy occurrence of errors during the application of a BGP-based MVPN in the prior art. |
