Gases, supplying. - Heat exchange between gases, and solids or molten materials, is promoted by adding to the gases a small proportion (about 5 per cent at the maximum) of carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide and steam, preferably in concentrated form. Where the carbon dioxide &c. is added in diluted form to gases containing little or no carbon dioxide, the proportion of added gases should not exceed 10 per cent. The additions may be made either to combustion products, which are being used for heating purposes, or to air to be heated in regenerators or recuperators. and in connection with coke oven or gas making plants the carbon dioxide may be obtained from the bye-product recovery apparatus.</p> |
