The present invention relates to a whole blood hollow fiber membrane filter medium comprising a polymeric material having a pore size ensuring permeability to blood plasma or serum and its molecular components, but retaining blood cells and to the use of said whole blood hollow fiber membrane filter medium for separating blood plasma from whole blood, wherein the blood plasma preferably shows no hemolysis.
