Producers.-In the manufacture of water gas, the air blast traverses the generator 1 in a downward direction from several inlets 13, and the steam blast traverses the whole of the fuel bed in an upward direction. Valve 3 admits air to the regenerator 7; valve 4, steam to the regenerator 8. The water gas escapes partly by valve 5 and partly, after passing up through the incoming coke 2, by valve 9. Preheated secondary air passes to the combustion chamber 12 which may surround the lower part of the generator. A clinkering tuyere is provided.
