<p>A method of forwarding data frames in a network comprising a bridged LAN connecting multiple access elements (ASR1,ASR2,ASR3) to which clients (C1,C2,C3) connect and which operates a spanning tree protocol, the method comprising configuring ports on the access elements as either network-network interfaces (NNI) for ports facing towards the root bridge (Dist1,Dist2), or user-network interfaces (UNI) for ports facing away from the root bridge; and either (i) receiving a data frame at a network-network interface port of an access element (ASR1,ASR2,ASR3) and passing the data frame at least to user-network interfaces of the access element (ASR1,ASR2,ASR3); or (ii) receiving a data frame at a user-network interface port of an access element (ASR1,ASR2,ASR3) and passing the data frame only to network-network interfaces of the access element (ASR1,ASR2,ASR3).</p> |
