This technology pertains to a playback device, playback method, and recording medium whereby graphics having a high luminance dynamic range can be displayed at an appropriate brightness. An optical disc contains a generating command that generates tone_mapping_info, said tone_mapping_info being tone-mapping definition information used when performing a luminance conversion from an HDR screen consisting of a BDJ screen having a second luminance range that differs from and is higher than a first luminance range to a STD screen having said first luminance range, and tone_mapping_info containing HDR information indicating the luminance characteristics of the HDR screen. This technology can be applied to a recording medium on which graphics are recorded.
