Disclosed are a device and method for controlling engine rpm that can forcibly reduce engine rpm when an air filter clogged signal is generated. The method for controlling engine rpm according to the present invention is a method for controlling engine rpm for construction machinery including an engine, an air filter, an air filter clogging switch; an engine electronic control unit; and an equipment electronic control unit, which provides a method for controlling engine rpm for construction machinery, which includes the steps of: determining whether the air filter is clogged based on a signal from the air filter clogging switch; continuously delaying instead of initializing an engine operating time even when the engine is turned off after the generation of the air filter clogged signal; determining whether the air filter has been repaired or replaced when the delayed engine operating time exceeds a set time, after the air filter clogged signal is generated; applying a control signal from the equipment electronic control unit to the engine electronic control unit in order to forcibly reduce the engine rpm to a predetermined rpm when the air filter has not been repaired or replaced when the delayed engine operating time has exceeded the set time; and reducing the engine rpm to the predetermined rpm through a control signal applied from the engine electronic control unit to an engine operating unit. |
