<p>Provided is a humectant which has excellent moisture retaining properties and safety. A humectant according to the present invention contains a compound represented by formula (I-1) or (I-2), or a salt thereof. In the formulae, n represents an integer of 0-3; and X, Y and Z may be the same or different, and each represents a hydrogen atom or a -CH2CH(OH)CH2OH group. In this connection, in formula (I-1), at least one of X, Y and Z represents a -CH2CH(OH)CH2OH group; and in formula (I-2), at least one of X and Y represents a -CH2CH(OH)CH2OH group.</p> |
