In image processing where a distorted image which is obtained by photography using an extreme wide-angle optical system such as a fish-eye lens or an omnidirectional mirror is corrected to obtain a perspective projection type image, a composite index (Rn) is computed wherein the height upon a projection sphere surface and the distance from an optical axis are combined (301), and the composite index (Rn) is used to compute the distance (Rf) from the origin in the distorted image (302). Furthermore, two-dimensional coordinates (p, q) are computed within the distorted image using the distance (Rf) from the origin (303), and a pixel value of an outputted image is derived using either the location within the distorted image which is specified by the two-dimensional coordinates or a pixel in proximity thereto. It is possible, while reducing computational volume, to project the image from a projection spherical surface to an image capture surface, or in other words, to compute coordinates upon a coordinate plane, with high precision. |
