The electric knife (1) comprises a drive motor (2) connected via a drive gear (5) that has a guide block (4) on which a knife blade (3) is moved back and forth. A damping unit (6) is arranged along the moving direction (10) of the knife blade for counteracting the vibrations caused by the movement of the knife blade at the time of cutting. The damping unit is comprised of a guide carriage (7) to which the drive gear is connected operatively.
