<p>The apparatus according to the invention serves to clean at least one filter wall (14) as part of an air purification plant (10) for industry. It has a horizontal rail (48), on which a carriage (56) is guided such that it can move back and forth, and a vertical rail (80) which is fastened to the carriage (56) and on which a suction nozzle (82) is guided such that it can move up and down. By means of a drive motor (66), a first drive member (62) and a second drive member (64) can be driven jointly in a constant rotational direction. A carry-along member (128) arranged on the first drive member (62) is always in engagement with a guide member (130) fastened to the carriage (56). The second drive member (64) interacts permanently with a pick-up wheel (106) mounted on the carriage (56) and drives a third drive member (84) in the vertical direction, while the circumferential speed of the first drive member (62) is different from the circumferential speed of the second drive member (64).
