A head-up display including a display means (10) for displaying an image on a display region set on the windshield of an automobile, a host-vehicle information acquisition means (30, S200) for acquiring information about a host vehicle, a front view information acquisition means (30, S300) for acquiring front view information for the automobile, a display subject detection means (30, S400) for detecting a display subject for which guidance information is to be displayed in the display region on the windshield, a display control means (30, S600), and a display-format-setting means (30, S500). The display control means generates a guidance image so that the detected display subject and the corresponding guidance information overlap when viewed from within the vehicle compartment, and causes, via the display means, the guidance information to be displayed in an overlapping manner on the windshield. The display-format-setting means calculates an inconvenience value indicating the degree of inconvenience experienced by a vehicle occupant when the guidance image is displayed in an overlapping manner on the windshield, and sets a format in which the guidance image is displayed by the display control means so that the inconvenience value is within an appropriate range. |
