An apparatus and method for projecting received images onto a display surface is provided. A projection unit (30) selectively projects at least one received image onto a display surface. A communication processor (62) selectively receives at least one of an incoming communication signal from a remote source and a notification configuration signal and a notification module (310) selectively notifies a user upon receipt of the incoming communication signal from the remote source. A controller (12) is coupled to each of the projection unit, the communication processor (62) and notification module. The controller (12) identifies a mode of operation and automatically disables the notification module upon determining that the projection unit (30) is configured to selectively project the at least one received image onto a display surface.
