Triangulation mechanism for access ports

A surgical apparatus and method for triangulation is disclosed which includes a housing, a rod extending through the housing and a plate attached to a distal end of the rod. The housing is adapted for sealed insertion into an incision in tissue and defines a longitudinal axis. The plate is rotatable about the longitudinal axis upon rotation of the rod and includes a plurality of slots dimensioned for the reception of surgical objects therethrough. Each of the slots is adapted to transition a surgical object between a first position and a second position upon rotation of the plate. The plate is movable relative to the housing along the longitudinal axis upon actuation of the rod in an axial direction and the plate may also be removably attachable to a distal end of the housing.

1. A surgical apparatus comprising:
a housing defining a longitudinal axis and having a plurality of lumens extending therethrough, the housing adapted for sealed insertion into an incision in tissue, the plurality of lumens adapted for sealed reception of surgical objects therethrough; a rod extending through the housing; and a plate attached to a distal end of the rod and rotatable about the longitudinal axis upon rotation of the rod, the plate including a plurality of slots dimensioned for the reception of surgical objects therethrough, at least one of the slots being adapted to transition a surgical object between a first position at a first distance from the longitudinal axis and a second position at a second distance from the longitudinal axis upon rotation of the plate, the second distance being different from the first distance.
