The present invention relates to a backlight unit (BLU). More specifically, the present invention relates to an ultra-thin BLU of an edge light type, capable of local dimming. A BLU according to the present invention includes a light guide plate, at least one light source formed on a side of the light guide plate, a diffusion plate formed on the light guide plate, a prism sheet formed on the diffusion plate, and a liquid crystal film formed between the light guide plate and the diffusion plate or the diffusion plate and the prism sheet. The present invention implements local dimming to implement a high contrast range in an edge light type BLU and provides an ultra-thin BLU. |
