The present invention relates to a method for improving the life expectancy and recovery rate of a cerium oxide abrasive by using a vertical decanter, a fluoride-containing compound such as NaHF_2 and a cyclone filter in a process of reproducing the cerium oxide abrasive. The present invention is able to effectively separate cerium oxide from water and glass chips by using the vertical decanter, easily separates cerium oxide by adding the fluoride-containing compound such as NaHF_2 to polishing slurry and improves the life expectancy and recovery rate of the abrasive when the cerium oxide abrasive is recycled.
