A drive apparatus that drives a display medium that includes a display substrate having a light transparency, a rear substrate facing the display substrate with a gap between the display substrate and the rear substrate, a disperse medium filled in between the display substrate and the rear substrate, and a particle group that includes a plurality of particles which is dispersed in the disperse medium and has a color different from a color of the disperse medium and moves the plurality of particles between the substrates in accordance with an electric field, the drive apparatus comprising: a voltage application unit that applies a first voltage and a second voltage to the display medium, wherein, in a case where the color of the particle group is displayed, the voltage application unit applies the first voltage higher than or equal to a threshold voltage necessary for the particle group to be detached from the display substrate or the rear substrate to a pixel where the particle group is moved between the substrates and thereafter applies the second voltage that has a same polarity as the first voltage and is lower than the threshold voltage to the pixel where the particle group is moved between the substrates and to a pixel which is adjacent to the pixel where the particle group is moved between the substrates and the particle group of which is not moved.
