The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or a food composition for preventing or treating cancer, including a novel chalcone derivative, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a chalcone derivative compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt therof as active ingredients. By inhibiting topoisomerase I, cathepsin B or cathepsin L activity, the chalcone derivative compound or the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof of the present invention can be usefully applied for treatment or prevention of cancers.
