The object is achieved by using a silver catalyst in a reaction for synthesizing hydroxyketone from polyhydric alcohol having adjacent hydroxyl groups, and a hydrogenation catalyst in a reaction for synthesizing glycol from hydroxyketone. |

A method for producing glycol from polyhydric alcohol having adjacent hydroxyl groups, comprising a reaction for synthesizing hydroxyketone from polyhydric alcohol by using a silver catalyst and a reaction for synthesizing glycol from the hydroxyketone formed in the reaction described above by using a hydrogenation catalyst,
wherein the reaction for synthesizing hydroxyketone and the reaction for synthesizing glycol continuously progress in one reaction system by using a catalyst containing both silver and copper and a gas-phase flow reaction apparatus, and pressure conditions in the reaction for synthesizing hydroxyketone and the reaction for synthesizing glycol are 1 MPa or less. |
