SYSTEM FOR ELECTRIC CONTROL UNIT UPGRADE WITH SECURITY FUNCTIONS AND METHOD THEREOF

The present invention relates to a system for upgrading an electric control unit (ECU) with security functions and a method thereof, which are capable of solving problems of hacking and safely upgrading ECU software without an error when the ECU software is remotely upgraded. The system includes: a carmaker server which authenticate a vehicle whose software is to be upgraded, and transmits software suitable for a type of the vehicle as a binary file through a network; a personal portable terminal which transmits the binary file transmitted from the carmaker server to an upgrade terminal; the upgrade terminal which transmits the software transmitted from the personal portable terminal to an ECU for the vehicle through a vehicle network gateway; and the ECU for the vehicle which temporarily stores the software transmitted through the vehicle network gateway, verifies whether a binary file to be upgraded is changed based on a verification code, and records the temporarily stored software in a flash ROM only when the binary file to be upgraded is not changed.
