The press has an upper frame (1) movable relative to a lower frame (2), where a slide (3) is mounted on the lower frame. A cam (4) is carried by the upper frame and controls displacement of the slide. The slide comprises a locking element (5) that is movable between two positions. The locking element locks the slide with a fixed part (6) of the lower frame in one of the positions and unlocks the slide relative to the fixed part in the other position. The cam controls displacement of the locking element between the two positions during displacement of the upper frame towards the lower frame.
