A wearable device assembly has a housing supporting a controller, display and indicator system thereon. The controller has at least one sensor wherein activity of a user wearing the device is detected. The controller selectively illuminates the indicator system to indicate a level of activity of the user.

a processor; and memory storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to:
establishing a communication link with a wearable activity monitoring device different from the apparatus;receiving activity information from the wearable activity monitoring device, the activity information corresponding to recorded activity of a user of the wearable activity monitoring device;determining whether the user of the wearable activity monitoring device exceeded an activity goal by a first threshold amount; andin response to determining that the user exceeded the activity goal by the first threshold amount, awarding the user with a first activity reward.
