PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a start adapted to an engine temperature.SOLUTION: A main lock mechanism 16 is locked in phase by the fit-in of a main lock member 160 into a main lock hole 162 at a main lock phase Pm at which an intake valve 9 is closed at timing which is delayed more than bottom dead point arrival. A sub-lock mechanism 17 is locked in phase by the fit-in of a sub-lock member 170 into a sub-lock holed 172 at a sub-lock phase Ps which is advanced more than the main lock phase Pm. A movable body 181 arranged in the main lock hole 162 reciprocally moves to an opened position Lo and a closed position Lc of the main lock hole 162. At a warm start at which an engine temperature is not lower than a set temperature Ts, a drive source 182 retains the movable body 181 at the opened position Lo for maintaining the fit-in of the main lock member 160 into the main lock hole 162, and on the other hand, at a cold start at which the engine temperature is lower than the set temperature Ts, the drive source drives the movable body 181 to the closed position Lc for making the main lock member 160 escape from the main lock hole 162. |
