PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of sparks in a hologram having a light-reflection layer comprising a metal vapor deposition thin film or in a card such as a magnetic card having a hologram disposed on a magnetic layer, to prevent fire or damages of machines in a manufacturing process, and to obtain good visibility of a hologram.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an optical element is provided, where the optical element has a hologram layer 3 including a hologram forming layer 4 and a reflection layer 5 composed of a first reflection layer 6 and a second reflection layer 7. The method includes steps of: forming the hologram forming layer 4 having a diffraction structure composed of minute recesses and projections; forming the first reflection layer 6 having a sea-island structure by forming a metal thin film comprising a metal material on the whole surface of the hologram forming layer 4 and etching the metal thin film; and forming the second reflection layer 7 having a finer sea-island structure than the sea-island structure of the first reflection layer 6, by vapor-depositing a metal material to cover the sea portion of the first reflection layer 6. |
