<p>Provided is a light control element that has little light transmission loss due to a bonded portion and can be easily manufactured. The light control element (1) is configured such that: a dielectric film (3) is formed in a second region on the upper surface (2a) of an X-cut LiTaO3 substrate (2), and a LiNbO3 film (4) is formed from a first region to reach the dielectric film (3) in the second region; the LiNbO3 film (4) is oriented in the a-axis direction in the first region, and c-axis direction in the second region; light waveguides (5, 6) are provided in the LiNbO3 film (4); and first control electrodes (7, 8) are provided in the first region and third and fourth control electrodes (10, 11, 12a, 12b) are provided in the second region.</p> |
