The invention relates to a method for carrying out an automatic colour compensation of an image-capture system (1) connected to a vehicle, which image-capture system uses a colour camera (2) and an object-recognition unit (3) for recognising road signs or vehicle registration numbers. According to a first solution according to the invention, at least one colour characteristic value of a road sign recognised by the object-recognition unit (3) is determined, the determined colour characteristic value is compared to a standard colour characteristic value stored in a storage means (4) and, in the event of a discrepancy, a correction value is defined and a colour compensation of the image data produced by the colour camera (2) is carried out by means of the correction value. According to a second solution according to the invention, at least one colour characteristic value is detected in a recognised number plate of a vehicle and, by means of text and pattern recognition, the vehicle registration number is determined. A standard colour characteristic value of the recognised number plate is defined by comparing the determined vehicle registration number with a nationality registration number stored in a storage means (4) and country-specific standard colour characteristic values of the license plates. The colour characteristic value detected in the recognised license plate is compared to the standard colour characteristic value and, in the event of a discrepancy, a correction value is defined and, by means of the correction value, a colour compensation of the image data produced by the colour camera (2) is carried out. |
