A liquid crystal display device (100) comprises: a vertical alignment type liquid crystal layer (30); and a first photo-alignment film (12) and a second photo-alignment film (22). The first photo-alignment film has a first pretilt region (12a) and a second pretilt region (12b) defining mutually antiparallel pretilt directions (PD1, PD2). The second photo-alignment film has a third pretilt region (22a) and a fourth pretilt region (22b) defining mutually antiparallel pretilt directions (PD3, PD4). The overall boundary (BD1) between the first pretilt region and the second pretilt region and the overall boundary (BD2) between the third pretilt region and the fourth pretilt region overlap with each other when viewed from the direction normal to the display surface. |
