Disclosed are a protective shroud; a closed cell board container and a protective packaging system. The disclosure notes that preventing damage to packaged freight while unloading and loading is accomplished by using protective edges such as corner boards. Protective edges can be time consuming to manufacture and tend to splay outwards when tensioned by straps, therefore simpler manufacturing methods and more effective ways to protect edges is required. The protective shroud is made from a sheet of closed cell board including a planar surface and first (1004) and second liner sheets on either side of a core (1005). Along at least one edge of the planar surface at least one u-shaped three sided channel (1000) is formed from two parallel slits or at least one sleeve is formed from three of more parallel slits. The slits are cut through the first liner sheet (1004) and core (1005) of the closed cell board. The slits are parallel to an edge of the sheet of closed cell core board (1005) and do not penetrate the second liner sheet. The u-shaped channel(s) (1000) or sleeve(s) have outside corner edges in the form of splits formed by folding along the parallel slits cut through the first liner sheet (1004) and core (1005) of the closed cell board.
