An image display system 10 comprises a three-dimensional digital holographic image 14 and an image projection device 18 for generating and projecting a virtual image 20. A partially-transparent reflective projection screen 22 is inclined at an angle relative to the projected image and is located in front of the digital holographic image such that the digital holographic image 14 is visible through the projection screen. The image projection device is arranged to project the generated image towards the projection screen, from which it is reflected such that a viewer 15 perceives a virtual image 28 emanating from behind the projection screen and superimposed onto at least part of the digital holographic image 14. The system may include a controller that to control the generated image based on an external stimulus. The controller may be an eye tracking sensor or a touch screen. |
