Disclosed is a chimeric transcription regulatory region comprising: -two or more copies of a sugarcane bacilliform viral (SCBV) enhancer element nucleic acid having at least 70% identity to the nucleotide sequence from position 337 to position 618 of SEQ ID NO: 1, as defined in the complete specification; and -operably linked thereto, a heterologous promoter comprising an RNA polymerase binding site and a mRNA initiation site, wherein the chimeric transcription regulatory region enhances the level of transcription of an operably linked nucleic acid of interest relative to the level of transcription of the nucleic acid of interest operably linked to a transcription regulatory region comprising the promoter and not comprising two or more SCBV enhancer elements. |
