Provided is a banknote deposit and withdrawal apparatus for which the apparatus can be simplified and miniaturized and which can shorten deposit transaction time for banknotes even if there are cases in which the banknotes are temporarily withheld. The banknote deposit and withdrawal apparatus is provided with an annular transport channel which has a banknote validation unit for validating a banknote, and uses at least a portion of the annular transport channel for transporting the banknote from the customer service unit to the holding-by-denomination unit. In addition, a control unit is characterized in causing the annular transport channel to function as a temporary withholding unit for deposit-rejected banknotes by cycling the deposit-rejected banknotes around the annular transport channel. |
